I had to use the next common size, K01253 (125+' long) and the tensioner provided just a little tension. This does not provide enough adjustment for the K081223 (122+' long) to work. Only one side, the smooth pulley side, pivots. The Gates 38191 tensioner which is supposed to be the equivalent is NOT. Look up a 2002 F-250 7.3 diesel at RockAuto, its under the belt drive selection as 'Belt Tensioner' or just punch in Motorcraft BT-50 under part number selection.

RockAuto sells several different brands of SD 7.3 dual tensioners but I would stick with the Motorcraft BT-50, I know it works. As a rough guess, with just one movable pulley there is 1/2 of the adjustment travel gone. The Motorcraft/Ford SD BT-50 tensioner just does not fit into the bracket without the notch. Thats correct, seems to me the store sold him the wrong part. Ribbed sides of the belt to the ribbed pulleys and the smooth side of the belt to the smooth pulleys. The solid line is the belt routing, the dotted line is ignored. The belt routing decal is a little fuzzy but the dual tensioner is at the left top, crank pulley at the bottom, A/C, PS and vacuum at right looking at the engine from the front of the truck. The cut must be there for clearance or the tensioner does not move enough to allow belt installation. The factory drawing shows the gusset cut completely across but I left a bit and the Idler Tensioner still worked fine. The bracket gusset is cut 1/2' lower than the bracket face for dual idler tensioner clearance. The bracket lower idler pulley support post is cut off flush with the bracket face.
